Keratoconus
What is Keratoconus?
Keratoconus is an eye disease that causes the cornea – the clear front of the eye – to thin and bulge forward causing a cone-shaped appearance. The cone-shaped cornea results in distorted and blurred vision.
Evaluation and Management
Keratoconus is a progressive eye disease that can worsen over time. Current research shows that collagen-cross linking can help slow the progression of keratoconus, preventing further bulging of the cornea. Our eye doctors will identify if you are at risk of keratoconus and a candidate for collagen cross-linking treatment.
Restoring Functional Vision
In mild keratoconus, eyeglasses and contacts may provide adequate vision correction. But in moderate to severe keratoconus, patients may need specialty contact lenses to see clear and comfortable. These lenses are customized gas permeable lenses fit over the cornea and onto the sclera (white part of the eye). We have helped many keratoconus patients live a productive and happy life by improving their vision with scleral lenses.
