LipiFlow
Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD)
Meibomian glands sit along the upper and lower eyelids and release an oily fluid on the surface of the eye aftertear every blink. When these oil glands become blocked it can lead to reduced tear production and poor quality. This condition is known as Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD). As MGD progresses, without treatment, it can cause dry eye and inflammation of the eye.
LipiFlow Treatment
LipiFlow is a medical device used to address Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD). The procedure centers around the breakthrough Vectored Thermal Pulsation Technology. A device is placed on the eye which applies precise heat from the inner lid – loosening the contents in the oil gland – and pressure to unclog and express the gland. As a result, the gland obstruction is released and outflow is improved.
LipiFlow Outcome
Up to 86% of dry eye patients had signs of MGD and approximately 1 in 5 patients with MGD are asymptomatic. LipiFlow has been shown to increase gland secretion threefold, on average, with just one treatment. Book an appointment and find out if you are a candidate for LipiFlow treatment.
